400 complaints, 28% of the total
half of the steering reports that give a mileage came before this
30 mention an injury, 18 a fire
The steering leads the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 record at 28%, with electrical system close behind. Of the steering reports that give a mileage, half came before 65,000 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the electric power steering rack, $778 to $1,939 for the part alone.
It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.
Steering complaints lead the file, mostly a loss of power assist and steering warnings. GM recall 17V-414 covers a temporary loss of electric power steering assist, mostly in low-speed turns, and the dealer updates the steering software free.
Many brake complaints describe a hard pedal. The engine-driven vacuum pump that helps the brakes can lose vacuum over time, and recall 19V-645 reprograms the brake control module free.

Steering rack and pinion internal failure at 38000, as confirmed by dealership. Was informed that it could cause the steering to lock up and ultimately crash the vehicle
When turning there is a loud popping noise thin the steering. I was told by my dealer it was $1900 to fix and chevy would not help me. I am very disappointed.

Vehicle vibration and whistling noise at 60-55 mph decelerating. Have taken to dealership--they have ordered a drive shaft to replace the imperfect shaft they state is on the truck. Seriously, have had the truck a week now--gm will be notified and whoever else I can find that has a hand in this. Not paying for this truck, checking with attorney.
We own a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. Upon traveling a low rate of speed or under 40 mph, there is a sudden loss of power. The vehicle hesitates numerous times and stalled. The vehicle shuts off and there is a loss of power and engine dies. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than twice, but they were unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The approximate failure mileage is 35,024.
Have had the vehicle at piles chevy and dan cummins chevy multiple times along with tire discounters everyone says vehicle is in spec and the shaking at 70 to 75 mph is normal however I've owned multiple vehicles non of them has ever had this issue I can't get the dealer to fix it they only say it's a known issue truck only has 57000 miles on it.
The vehicle ignition turned off while driving (vehicle in motion) causing the power steering to fail. This has happened three times in the past 3 weeks. Gm does not list this model as part of its recall and when I contacted gm they recommended taking it to a dealer and having it repaired at my expense.

I filed a previous complaint, #11044339, but forgot to add something. I took my vehicle to the dealer on sept. 22,2017 for the power steering recall ,#17276. I don't know if this is related to the problem , but thought it might be some good information to divulge.
The power steering locks up for just a second and the triggers the stabilitrack warning. The lights flicker when I turn the turn signal on, it will shut off and turn back on when turning at low speeds. All issues that have been recalled on 2014 silverados. Just not my 2014 silverado

My brake pedal just got hard. It took was all I could do to stop my truck, thank goodness I was in a 35 mph zone and not at highway speeds. I was on vac and went to local dealer to see what happened. My brake vacuum pump failed & it cost me $504.00 to repair
Recall number n192217410 and local dealer wont service. Saying it must be taken to canada to be serviced. Service brake assist error on dic. Why send recall notice if country of use is not authorizing the recall. Is it only dangerous in certain countries?

I was traveling on a highway doing 55 mph. I say the light turn red and applied my brakes. There were no brakes as the pedal went to the floor. Fortunately we were able to roll to a stop without crashing into the car in front. I was towed to my dealer where they diagnosed it as a brake booster failure. This is just not right and seems too dangerous for such a new vehicle.
My service light is constantly going off for "trailer brake system". It has been doing it for quite some time. I have taken it to the dealer several times to be looked at with no luck. Today I drove it about 20 miles and it must have chimed about 30 times. It is a constant distraction when I'm driving not to mention very irritating. It does it in park, in drive, dry and wet weather.
While driveing and comeing to a stop brake petal became extremely hard . Almost ran into vehicle in front of me .spoke with local dealer and was told the vacuum pump was the problem and my truck is out of warranty and they would not repair unless I paid for it . My truck has 80000 miles on it but we use it to travel .this sould be a safety issue .
While driving my 2014 silverado my brakes became hard to use. I had to push hard with both get to get them to work. Then I drove the rest of the way and they where fine until I tried to park and it happened again. I found on a forum that this is a vaccume pump issue that is common in this year.
When it starts

What to do
Press the brake pedal several times with the engine running; it should not turn hard.
