1,307 complaints, 44% of the total
half of the powertrain reports that give a mileage came before this
53 mention an injury, 35 a fire
The powertrain leads the 2013 Ford F-150 record at 44%, with engine next at 18%. Of the powertrain reports that give a mileage, half came before 94,000 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the brake master cylinder, $121 to $162 for the part alone.
It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.
More than four in ten complaints name the powertrain, most of them hard or unexpected shifts, and Ford recalled the six-speed automatic for downshifting into first gear at speed. The 3.5L trucks also have a brake recall for a master cylinder seal that can leak fluid into the booster.
NHTSA looked into the 3.5L EcoBoost misfiring under hard acceleration, from condensation in the charge air cooler (PE13-018), and closed it without a recall after Ford issued a service fix.
2013 Ford F-150 overview
The 2013 F-150 came with a 3.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter turbo V6 and V8s of 5.0 and 6.2 liters, all with a six-speed automatic, in rear-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive.
Owners filed 67% more complaints about the 2013 than the 2012 (1,777), and the powertrain leads both years. The 2014 drew 1,520, with powertrain named most.

Is the 2013 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners filed more complaints about the 2013 Ford F-150 than about any other F-150 year, and the powertrain draws the largest share. The four checks below are what the federal record can say; none of them is a reliability score.

My Ford 150 v8 supercab at 32 miles per hour starts shaking the whole truck and vibrates. It does this regardless of road conditions and or gear the truck is in. It only goes away when you drop below 32 or go faster than 35.
I was driving down the on ramp to merge with traffic and my truck shifted to 1st gear locking up the back tires which caused me to almost loose control and get rear ended by the person behind me. Cause of problem found at Ford dealer was faulty molded lead frame.

Lead frame failed. Caused vehicle to downshift suddenly while speedometer read very low. Multiple times. At highway speed in full auto or in manual gear shift override. The vehicle would downshift at 65mph to 2nd or 1st gear, locking up the rear axle. Cost to repair at dealership was $810.61
My 2013 f-150 is experiencing the exact same symptoms that are covered under a Ford recall for 2011 thru 2012 f150s 16n02 molded leadframe extended warranty recall. The transmission will downshift into first gear all by itself, even at highway speeds, resulting in rear wheel skidding and transmission lock-up.
I was trying to pass another car when my engine stalled. I was going about 45 to 50 mph when I went to accelerate around the car and my engine completely stalled and lost power. The transmission light appeared. It had been raining alot and was humid and wet although not actively raining at time of malfunction. I drive a new Ford f150 v6 with ecoboost technology.
After driving about 200 miles at 65mph in the rain, I accelerated quickly to pass a vehicle and my 2013 Ford f-150 ecoboost truck seemed to lose power/stall and I could no longer accelerate. The engine light flashed for several minutes while this was happening and after several minutes (probably 2-3), power was restored and the engine light went off.
When it starts
Usually starts around 94,000 miles. Half of owners reported it between 64,000 and 133,000.

Took to dealership as advised dealership stated this was normal for a 5.0 liter engine. Notified Ford after taking to dealership they have not responded back.

Vehicle was in motion, pulling a trailer and the light came on and then shut down completely. Turned it off then back on and it was fine for 2 blocks then did it again. It took several attempts to get it to the dealership. They informed it is electronic throttle body failure.

Started vehicle at my work location, brake light came on, checked brake fluid resevior found it low. Filled with brake fuid, drove to dealer with less that 100% braking power. Dealer replaced brake master cylinder and booster. Dealer work ticket attached.
On 6/5/2016 the low brake fluid warning light came on and the brake fluid reservoir was empty. We were near harold Ford in sacramento, ca, so we dropped the truck off for repair. On 6/6/2016, the master cylinder and brake booster were replaced.

Brakes go all the way down to the floor. Appears to be the same issue as some of the other 2013 models were recalled for, but for some reason, Ford didn't include this model. This model should be included too.
Truck was parked several hours in son-in-laws driveway. Wife got in truck, after cranking and placing in reverse, no brakes! Backed into son-in laws vehicle damaging it and damaging f 150. F 150 still under warranty, taken to mullinax Ford mobile al. Found mastercylinder defect , failed gasket caused brake booster to fail. Master cylinder replaced by mullinax Ford, mobile al.
Brake rotors are warping quickly; twice with only 25,000 miles. Dealer has turned rotors twice, but not willing to replace rotors.
On 4/16/2016 I was involved in a collision. After investigating the cause, it was found that the master cylinder was low with no visible leaks. Witness stated that they saw my brake lights come on but my vehicle didn't slow down. I contacted Ford about this and they had the "we don't care" attitude. My truck is still under warranty, and has had 99% of all maintenance done through Ford.

Now it drives, engine light on. Taking to dealer, first available appointment next week. 28,000 miles f150 2013 4x4 pickup. Only getting 13.5 mpg without trailer, worse with. Not happy.
Vehicle sputtered and stalled while slowing down on freeway. Ford f-150 recall: the vehicle was in motion while driving on the highway at 60-65 miles per hour, the rear tires locked momentarily then release as the vehicle slowed but never loss power. It was raining and the windshield wipers intermittently changed speeds...faster/slower/faster. The day before the speedometer stopped working while the vehicle was in motion. May all be related to the oss.
The truck shifts into emergency mode while driving and I have to pull over and stop shut off vehicle and restart. While in idle the vehicle shakes. It is at the Ford dealer in beatrice nebraska and they have stated that the electric throttle body needed replaced... 400$ repair. Also, air conditioning compressor went out 1500.00 repair on a 2013 vehicle!

Eco boost engine lost power when trying to accelerate and pass. This has happened three times. Ford dealer could not reproduce now and no response from Ford. Traveling speed 75 and tried to pass at 85.

Oil and service for the 2013 Ford F-150
This is what Ford's manual says the 2013 F-150 needs: which oil to use and how much, the fluids for the transmission and the cooling system, and when each job is due. The 3.5L, 3.7L and 5.0L trucks track oil wear and show an oil change message, but Ford says never to go past a year or 10,000 miles; the 6.2L engine has no such message and needs an oil change every 7,500 miles or 6 months.
