The powertrain leads the 2012 Ford F-150 record at 38%, with engine next at 27%. Of the powertrain reports that give a mileage, half came before 90,000 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the shift solenoid, $23 to $117 for the part alone.
It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.
Nearly four in ten complaints name the powertrain, most of them hard or unexpected shifts, and Ford recalled the six-speed automatic for downshifting into first gear at speed. Engine complaints come next, most of them a loss of power or a shudder.

Attempting to pass a vehicle on the highway, motor lost all power and began shaking. Code came up as engine misfire. Brought to the dealership said known issue, they inspected did not find anything wrong. Since that date has occurred 4-5 more times during wet weather anytime accelerating (passing vehicles, on ramps).
Transmission downshifted into first gear while I was driving approximately 60 mph, causing rear wheels to lock up. Truck started to spin around before stopping abruptly in the roadway. Ford diagnosed as bad part in transmission that was recalled in some vehicles, but not mine. Wtf?

Vehicle is randomly shifting into 1st gear. It doesn't matter what speed you are going (it has done it to me at 45 locking up the rear wheels) Ford has a recall on this , but our pickup isn't included for some reason.
My vehicle is experiencing all of the issues as stated in safety recall 16s19 (unintended downshift resulting in locking up of rear tires as well as intermittent limp mode and tachometer spikes and drops while driving on a city street). I took it to a Ford dealer and they indicated that my vehicle was outside of the 'build date' by a total of 9 days and they refused to address the issue per the safety recall.
While driving on the freeway in the morning going somewhere between 50-60 mph, vehicle automatically down shifted to first gear resulting in the wheels locking up. Was able to maintain control of the vehicle until it slowed down to first gear. Transmission was damaged. Ford would not fix the problem. Had to have aamco rebuild the transmission for $5,460.07. Occurred in sept of 2015 with 74,000 mileage.
Was driving on highway at 65 mph, when the trannie dropped into lower gear and locked up the rear end. The truck fishtailed for a few moments until I was able to gain control and pull to side of road. I was told by the dealership later that the leadframe harness needed to be replaced. However a safety reort came ut stating a sensor was to blame.

3.5-liter v6 ecoboost engine shudder, shake and then rapidly lose power while I'm accelerating. Advertised gas mileage of 22 is impossible; more like 16 highway and 14.4 in city. I had the engine checked at Ford dealership but no problems found!
My 2012 Ford ecoboost with shutter, stall, and shake violently on the highway at dangerous speeds and wet, moist, or humid conditions. It is very unsafe and remains consistent even after fords "tsb" with replacing the cac. Engine throws misfire codes as well in cylinder 5.

While attempting to accelerate from a stop sign turning right my 2012 Ford f150 platinum 4x4 ecoboost stalled and would not accelerate for a few seconds. I thought the truck shifted into neutral but that was not the case. This has happened several times within the last 3 months and is getting more frequent.

Water pump failure at mere 76,000 miles. Vehicle was maintained per factory manual. Location, southern california non-desert. Large puddle of coolant after 20 mile drive one day. No other warning signs. Dealership repair shop diagnosis says hose leaks and failed water pump.
There is a tick/knocking noise coming from underneath my engine it sounds like. I just bought this from a dealer about a week ago and I'm very frustrated right now because I am working hard to make payments on this truck and now I probably have to replace the engine??? It has 123,000 miles

While I was driving to the store on 10 mar 2016, I made a left turn in my f150 which resulted in the steering making a squealing noise and preceding to lock up. I was able to muscle the truck home and am fearful to drive it anywere.
The truck displayed a service advancetrac error, partially disabling the turn signals while driving. When I turn corners truck steering wheel will pull causing truck to veer sharper into the turn. It will also make a slight noise when it happens. Truck has 66000 miles on it.

Adv track service light, code u0428. Dealer says can't replace sensor, need to replace with sensor & rack $1500 to $2000. Come on Ford, if they won't replace original components, and have to buy redesigned system ... Doesn't that tell you the original design was messed up?
While traveling the electronic power steering assist failed rendering the truck nearly impossible to control. Dealer (rodeo Ford) replaced entire steering rack and within 500 miles it failed again. This time whilst towing a 5600 pound trailer down a 6% grade in arizona. Nearly killed my entire family.
After making a tight turn in a parking lot "service advancetrack" message came up on display. With message displayed turn signal would not stay on. At 50,000 miles dealer says the steering rack needs to be replaced that it is not a serviceable item.
Pulled into parking lot and truck stalled. Could not steer. Could not accelerate. Warning light popped up said low oil pressure. Was not on a hill. Ran vehicle health report through Ford sync service and everything came back ok. Will call dealership next. Had my daughter with me and it scared me to death.

While getting on the highway and accelerating, my truck began to shake and lose power. I took it in to the shop afterwards and they had to replace all spark plugs and 1 ignition coil. After researching this, I found out this has been an issue on several 2011 - 2013 model eco boost. Please force a recall, as I do not feel I need to pay for something Ford is responsible for.

Almost got hit trying to pass a car. When I pulled out to pass and tried to accelerate the motor started missing badly. Ford supposedly did not have a fix until early this year. My eco bust now has 70,000 miles and Ford wants me to pay for part of the repair. They have never contacted me to inform me of the problem.

Our transmission is doing exactly what the recall mentioned. We are traveling with a 2 year old and I can not believe that Ford does not have a fix to this problem this usa very dangerous situation while traveling on an interstate
I was driving on the freeway. I was driving approximately 70mph / 6th gear. My truck shifted on it's own ( I could tell by the dashboard gear indicator) into 1st gear. This caused my rear tires to lock up and put my vehicle into a skid.

Started truck and pulled away, pressed the brake pedal to stop and no brakes. As truck runs a few minutes the brakes start working. Failed 2 days now. Ford wants about $600 for replacement of vacuum pump. Should be recalled for safety.
No braking while backing out of garage. Heard abs motor engage while pushing on brake pedal. Took three 'pumps' on pedal for normal braking to return. Took vehicle to Ford dealer and they replaced brake vacuum pump assembly under warranty. Problem has returned as of 06-24-2015.

Loss of brake pedal when parked at cold start. Able to eventually pump brake pedal to achieve vehicle braking. Problem occurs intermittently. Reported to dealer on 10/28/2014 but no problem found. Reported to dealer again on 8/19/2015 for further investigation.
The brake fluid light came on and the brakes stopped working. There was no sign of a leak. I filled the master cylinder 2 times within 2 miles and samething continued to happen. I was able to slowly get it to a dealership and it was the booster and master cylinder. No signs of leaks. Immediately stopped functioning.
