810 complaints, 37% of the total
half of the powertrain reports that give a mileage came before this
25 mention an injury, 18 a fire
The powertrain leads the 2011 Ford F-150 record at 37%, with engine next at 22%. Of the powertrain reports that give a mileage, half came before 96,100 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the power steering rack, $239 to $978 for the part alone.
It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.
More than a third of the complaints name the powertrain, most of them hard or unexpected shifts, and Ford recalled the six-speed automatic for downshifting into first gear at speed. Engine complaints come next, most of them a check engine light or a loss of power.

While driving, rear wheels lock up for a few seconds, then truck shakes and has no acceleration power. This is happening at least once weekly now with loss of power lasting from 10 to 45 seconds. Not safe when in traffic. Local dealer says they can't find anything wrong and that they have no tsb on it.
At 50 mph while accelerating in traffic the engine shook and I lost power. This only happens with the ecoboost engine. Ford told the NHTSA this was corrected and the suit was ended. Ford will not install this repair in my truck.

Vehicle stalls out like it is starving for fuel when you need to accelerate. It has stalled out when passing other vehicles and when entering heavy traffic on interstates. As of july 31, 2014, the truck has been back to the dealership at least 4 times for this problem. However, I continue to have the problem.

I was driving to florida in my 2011 f150 ecoboost and on the highway at about 65 mph my truck started stalling and lost power miss firing and would not go over 10 mph causing me to pull over on the shoulder . I then turned the truck off and back on 10 mins later and it began to run fine agian. I took it to Ford and they say no engine codes went off so they did not know why it would do that.

2011 Ford f150 steering starts to bind as if power steering loss at 10-11 o'clock position. Took it to sunrise Ford in north hollywood ca. Diagnosed as a power steering gear fault.
Popping rattling knocking felt in steering wheel. Started when going over bumps then progressed into driving normal. Constant steering wheel popping and rattling. Feels like steering is coming apart. Dealership verified complaint. They have installed 2 different eaps steering rack and 1 intermediate steering shaft. The problem still persist...

My 2011 f150, at just under 60,000 miles, started to have the steering lock up. It can still be turned, but only with considerable effort. This seems to happen mainly on the highway after the wheel has not been moved for a few seconds. The dealer said the rack needs to be replaced (a $2k job), and it is not covered under warranty, which seems unbelievable.
2011 Ford f150 regular cab 5.4l started around nov 16, 2016 steering locks for a brief moment when executing turns. The steering mechanism grunts when moving the steering wheel back and forth. Electrical engagement of relay or motor several times per second when stopped at a red light. No warning lights. This occurs every time it is driven. Appears to be the electric power steering assist
Electric power assist steering failure, while making a left hand turn the steering failed part way through the turn causing the truck to go straight, because of this I almost hit 2 parked cars. When this happened the steering wheel locked up and I could not turn it. This is a known issue to Ford as there have been thousands of recall for these units from 2011 and newer, my truck falls in to the recall void.
I was about 3 miles from home when I started to feel the steering becoming hard to turn. About 2 blocks from home I had difficulty making a right and left turn till I drove up to my home, had some assistance in turning the steering and backing up the truck into drive way. After that steering went out. Had to get it towed to a Ford dealership. Had a to almost $2,000 for the repair

Truck locked up on me on the highway doing 70+ mph & caused me to spin out & wreck. It's a recall for that issue that Ford will not fix for me because of mileage. Terrible customer service & endangered my life & others that day for a issue that they're responsible for.
I turned the rear defrost on in my 2011 Ford f-150 and smelt a burning smell and then heard a pop the back driver side window tile had shattered.

2011 Ford f150 starter problems. I've replaced starter on this vehicle multiple times and still have issue's. I turn ignition and all that happens is a screeching noise. After a couple tries it starts. Second issue is speed control issues. I was driving on city streets and all of a sudden my speedometer stopped working. My truck would not shift and had to manually shift gears.
When I'm accelerating the engine stalls, I may be leaving a stop sign climbing over an overpass or passing another slower vehicle. Seems to happen more often about 40mph to 70mph.

Spring of 2012 acceleration failed when overtaking a slower vehicle. My speed was about 60 mph. This happened on more than one occasion. 06/10/13. Pickup does not have brakes during initial cold start up. The brake pedal is hard as a rock and will not stop truck. Can not park in garage as may hit house or garage or kids when backing out. Dealer will did not warranty as it was over the warranty period by aprox 1000 miles and 1 month.
The brakes on my 2011 Ford f150 failed due to a master cylinder failure. The engine then injested the brake fluid and blew the engine. Ford refused any repairs.

Electric vacuum pump went bad resulting in no brakes upon start up. Pedal became rock solid with no stopping power at all. Exactly 14000 miles after the first pump went bad, the exact same symptoms took place. Second one " out of warranty" because it was over 3 years old with only 28,000 miles. Ford "good willed" the repair.
Poor braking in the morning at 29,212 miles. Ford replaced brake vacuum pump assembly at no charge (under warranty). Same problem at 50,198 miles. No longer under warranty and I was charged $319.66 for the same part. I feel there is a problem with this assembly and it's a safety issue.

Oil and service for the 2011 Ford F-150
This is what Ford's manual says the 2011 F-150 needs: which oil to use and how much, the fluids for the transmission and the cooling system, and when each job is due. The 3.5L, 3.7L and 5.0L trucks track oil wear and show an oil change message, but Ford says never to go past a year or 10,000 miles; the 6.2L engine has no such message and needs an oil change every 7,500 miles or 6 months.
