267 complaints, 31% of the total
half of the engine reports that give a mileage came before this
21 mention an injury, 17 a fire
The engine leads the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze record at 31%, with electrical system next at 23%. Of the engine reports that give a mileage, half came before 66,500 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the water pump, $18 to $137 for the part alone.
It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.
Engine complaints lead the file, many about coolant loss, a coolant smell and warning lights. Recall 12V-288 covers oil that can collect in the engine shield after an oil change and catch fire on hot parts; the dealer modifies the shield free.
On cars with the turbo 1.4-liter and the automatic, recall 13V-360 covers an electric brake vacuum pump that may not switch on, so brake assist can drop; the dealer replaces a switch free.

Very strong smell of burning oil when car comes to a stop. Oil sprayed all over the top rear of engine and down back of engine. Dealer replaced pcv valve and manifold cover at 44,678 miles due to recurring antifreeze leak and lean fuel / low vacuum condition. Going back to dealer again I guess before it bursts into flames.
Have coolant odor inside vehicle. Dealer tested 3 times, but claims they can't duplicate the problem. Smell is very bad in colder months. Window fogs. Have to drive with windows open somewhat in winter conditions. Chevy now has a bulletin. Been trying to work through gm regional - they are ignoring me. Many other cruze owners have same complaint/problem.

I approached intersection my brake went to floor was t boned and total loss of my car this car has 6 airbags none of them deployed ..not getting anywhere with gm.
When the speed of the car starts to reach 50 miles a high pitch sound occurs. I cannot determined if it is related to when air conditioner is turned on. The noise will diminish when speed is lowered to about 45 miles. I cannot recall if this happens in the colder months but it does seem to happen in the summer.

Usually starts around 66,500 miles. Half of owners reported it between 30,075 and 96,340.

The day I purchased the vehicle, the radio intermittently discontinued working. The following morning after driving the care for approximately 20 miles and then stopping to visit my father, the car would not start. The car was towed back to the dealer and they noticed a burnt smell and no voltage to bcm, the repair order indicates they replaced ubec and operated system was all ok at that time.
2012 chevrolet cruze. Consumer requests reimbursement for vehicle defect repairs. *smd according to the invoice, the vehicle lost power and shut off while driving. The dealer replaced the battery and fuse block on the battery.

When putting the 2012 cruze in reverse the brakes would fail temporarily forcing me to push the car into park. A week later the radio start to turn on and off. At this point in time aug 7 2014 only the brakes have been fixed.

Open opening hood with engine off odor can be sensed near the water pump area. Dealer replaced water pump a week ago to remedy the problem. The vehicle has 28 k on it.
Radio turns on and off repeatedly including the upper display, the smaller display flickers and will show a service stabilitrak notice. When putting car into reverse on level ground to back up, brakes do not work properly and hardly stops car, very unnerving. Dealer could not find the problem, happens randomly. Have had this occur several times now. Have 18k miles.
When in reverse, several times (but randomly) the brakes are inoperable. They have to be stomped on in order to stop but sometimes do not activate and the car rolls.. Only in reverse, but very scary. Taking to the dealership immediately. Currently at 39,000 miles - purchased in november with 22,000.

As I was backing out of parking spot the brake pedal went to the floor increasing the time and distance to come to a complete stop.vehicle was towed to dealership where they determined it was a faulty brake microswitch (gm part # 13460776)that was already replaced under gm recall #12213 on march 20,2014.the dealership replaced the switch again and claim the brakes were now "working as designed".
Loss of brake assist at start up. Occured (4) times after recall #12213 was performed by dealer.
While parallel parking on a city street, brakes became unresponsive and I almost hit another car. I have had to have the brake booster pump replaced twice in two years and now it needs to be replaced again but dealer won't acknowledge that there is a known issue and because it is not involved in a recall, why I do not know, I must pay out of pocket. 3 booster pumps in 2 years but no recall???
Loss of power brake assist, requiring excessive force to stop vehicle. Barely stopped in time to avoid collision with vehicle ahead. Second incident. First incident was approximately 2-3 weeks ago when backing up in driveway.

I just bought a 2012 chevy cruze. At take off and turning around curves at low speed the steering and the wheels shake. I took it to the dealership. And couldn't find anything wrong with it but it continues to do it. Very upsetting that it is brand new and already having problems. I really like my car but wish it was fixed.
My car started jerking violently on saturday april 25 2015. A few hours later the car stalled then made a loud noise and returned to normal driving. Its been happening 5 days now. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was my drive wise insurance tracker that was making the car jerk so it was removed.the problem is still happening. It jerks when I stop and go but its fine when I'm at a steady speed.

I was starting to cross a busy intersection when the engine loss power light and stability control light came on. Car would not go over 5 miles an hour. Just about 90 days ago it was at the chevy dealership for same problem where the throttle body and all sensors were replaced.
Car goes into a power down mode and stabilitrak light comes on. Has been in dealership for a week and stored no codes to diagnose. Can be driving down the highway at 60 and have loss of power. Will eventually cause accident. Car is still under powertrain warranty and cant be diagnosed.

At low speeds, when turning, there is a grinding sensation in the steering wheel and can be felt in the floorboard. After taking this to the dealer twice, I was told it was the steering column. My extended warranty does not cover a "noise" and gm will not cover an issue if there is an extended warranty. I was told that changing out a $400+ part might not make a difference, and the noise could return again.

After about 15 minutes on the interstate at a speed of about 60mph the steering seems to have a spot that it sticks in and does not seem safe. Have called dealership but they say they havent heard of this problem but I can have it checked. It does not seem to happen everytime so I havent taken it in.
We were driving on rt 206 in jersey and the steering wheel locked up and the car went off the road. The car was totaled. About a week later I received a letter from chevy stating this is a known issue that the steering had increased friction and can cause the steering to lock up.
