Toyota Recalls by Model: Reliability and Common Problems
Every Toyota model in NHTSA's owner complaint file, 2010 to 2025: the recall campaigns for each model, which models and years owners complain about most, and the problems they report.
NHTSA owner complaintsChecked Oct 2, 202636,081 complaints45 models
The RAV4 drew the most owner complaints of any Toyota in NHTSA's file for 2010 to 2025, then the Prius and the Camry. The Tundra and the Tacoma have the most recall campaigns, 58 and 41.
Best-sellers draw the most reports, so a high count is not a failure rate. Check one car with its VIN.
The 2010 Prius brake complaints match recall 10V-039, for an inconsistent brake feel after the ABS works on rough or slick roads, and recall 13V-235, for nitrogen gas that can leak into the brake fluid on early cars. The 2010 Corolla's airbag recalls are 14V-168, for a steering wheel cable that can switch off the driver's airbag, and the Takata inflator recalls 18V-024 and 19V-741.
The 2019 RAV4 fuel complaints match recall 20V-682, for a low-pressure fuel pump that can fail and stall the engine.
Toyota recalls by model
Recall campaigns NHTSA lists for each Toyota model, model years 2010 to 2025, read Oct 2, 2026. Each campaign counts once per model, however many years it covers. NHTSA's recall service returned no answer for Tacoma 2021; Corolla 2022 and 2025; Prius 2020, so those years are not counted. Recall repairs are free at the dealer; check one car with its VIN.

Toyota complaints by model
Owner complaints to NHTSA for each Toyota model with at least 1,000 of them, model years 2010 to 2025, and the year that drew the most. A best-seller draws more reports than a rare model, so read these as counts, not failure rates. 36 smaller models are left out.

Common questions
Are Toyotas reliable?
The complaint file can't grade a brand, because it counts reports, not failures per car sold. What it shows is where Toyota owners report trouble: the airbag system most, then the braking system, and the RAV4, Prius and Camry draw the most complaints.
Which Toyotas should you stay away from?
No model is bad in every year. The model years with the most owner complaints are 2010 Prius, 2010 Corolla, 2019 RAV4 and 2018 Camry; inspect those hardest and check their recalls before you buy.
Which Toyota has the most recalls?
The Tundra, with 58 recall campaigns across model years 2010 to 2025, then the Tacoma with 41.
What is the most common problem with Toyotas?
Owners name the airbag system most, in 3,771 complaints, 10% of the Toyota record, then the braking system, in 3,762.
How do I check if my Toyota has a recall?
Enter the 17-character VIN in our free recall checker or on NHTSA's recall page. It lists open recalls for that one car, and the dealer does the repair for free.
