Short answer

The powertrain leads the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee record at 20%, with electrical system close behind. Of the powertrain reports that give a mileage, half came before 25,200 miles. The costliest part on our cost list is the alternator, $156 to $879 for the part alone.

It's a count of reports, not a failure rate. Use it to decide what to inspect before buying, not to grade the car.

What we know beyond the file

Complaints spread over the powertrain, the electrical system and the engine in near-equal shares, with rough shifting the most common powertrain theme. The 2014 Grand Cherokee is under recalls for alternators that may suddenly fail and for brake boosters that may let water in.

Recall 16V-240 updates the software of the electronic shifter, which may not warn a driver who opens the door while the SUV is not in Park; NHTSA's investigation counted 306 rollaway reports.

While driving up a grade at 50 mph, vehicle began to shake/shudder/vibrate. I had to tramp the accelerator to engage the transmission to work through the situation. This has happened at least a dozen times. Dealer has not been able to replicate the condition. The catalytic converter is being replaced on 7/16. I do not know if this is the cause of the problem.

On feb 10th 2017 while driving to work the car lost its power in the middle of the highway, abs failed, power steering failed, and every indicator on the dash board lit up. When the car finally stopped, car shut down while it was in gear. After further inspection at the jeep dealership, it was determined that alternator was at fault and caused the car to stall and electronics to fail. Costing $1,600 in repairs

Recall on jeep alternator and brake booster water shield. My complaint is the length of time in getting the parts. The alternator went out and it has been sitting at the dealership for 11 days now and parts are still not released from chrysler. They will not give me a rental. What is a person to do? Except pay 800$ and then fight chrysler to get my money back.
